Parenting

Though a pregnancy may be unexpected, many women choose to carry their babies to term and parent them.  The life circumstances of these women do not all look alike, and their parenting plans look different too.

Already married couples, or those couples in committed, loving relationships, may choose to marry and raise their child together.

Some couples may believe marriage is not an option for them, but both want to be involved in their child’s life.  Though they do not live together, these parents can agree to work together for the best interests of their child.

Single parenting is another option that may look different in different families.  Some women share housing with a family member or members or other support person.  Others live on their own with their child or children.

Some women feel overwhelmed at the prospect of parenting a child whether they are married, have help, or think they will parent alone.  Coming to the realization that they are responsible for the life of another person is a sobering thought.  Though parenting is challenging, it can be rewarding as well.  One woman shared, “It’s the most challenging, but most rewarding, job I’ll ever have.”
